Multimedia boards are coming into Lagos Classrooms

The Lagos state Government has concluded plans to acquire 2,000 multimedia interactive solutions for all secondary school and Tertiary Institutions in the state to replace the traditional chalkboards.
The state will also host the first Cambridge-Hitachi Virtual Teaching and Learning Center in Nigeria. The state Governor, Babatunde Fashola stated that the government would be partnering with Cambridge-Hitachi to make the dream a reality.

A statement on Tuesday by the Director, Local Organising Committee Cambridge-Hitachi Virtual Teaching and Learning, Ms. Adebukola Oluderu, quoted  Fashola as saying the move was to upgrade the educational sector in the state.

Fashola said, "All tertiary institutions and secondary schools, totaling about 10,000 in Lagos state, will have the multimedia interactive solutions in each of their classrooms to replace the traditional chalkboards which will allow for world-class teaching and learning."

Oluderu said the state's partnership with the company was a result of a roundtable meeting on education in Africa held in October 2014.
According to Oluderu, the decision of the state government was indicated in a bid forwarded to the Hitachi Group for tertiary and the secondary schools in the state. She added that the meeting was yielding result with the Lagos state Government pioneering the hosting of the center.

Oluderu said a team of delegates from the state would meet with the Cambridge-Hitachi team at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the commencement of the center.

The multimedia solution is vital and important to teaching and learning as it is the hub in which the gains of the Cambridge-Hitachi International Virtual Teaching and learning Center will be transferred and transmitted to all schools," she added.

The Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, said the approval given to Lagos State to host the center was based on Outstanding  performance, availability of infrastructure, and the determination of the state government to improve teaching and learning quality in the educational sector.

Not again, SSANU !

After over 3 months of total, comprehensive and indefinite strike over the unmet demands from 2009 up to 2013 by the Government, the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU), Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo chapter yesterday 10th of September, 2014 said that after several deliberations and letters to the state Government band university management, SSANU members are yet to be paid their salaries.
"It is against the Labour law for a worker's salaries to be withheld within two months of embarking on strike. It is simply a means of victimization" said Mr. Saheed Oseni, Chairman of the Union. Haven written several letters to Governor Babatunde Fashola, met with appropriate authorities on the issues but had not received positive response so far. Mr Oseni said the Union was planning to ground activities in the institution soon. If the salaries were not paid, as they would not forfeit their entitlement. 'When two elephants are fighting the grass suffers' so they say, for the sake of our dear Nigerian students please all concerned authorities should please respond as we don't want to go on an indefinite or definite strike any more. Do you know about this?

A School with 220m² frame or pyramid building which is 10m high with 10m × 10m base, which is an ideal shape for a floating object on water due to its relatively low center of gravity which provides stability and balance even in heavy winds.
It has the total capacity to sit safely and support 100 adults, even in extreme weather conditions.
It is of 3 levels: 1st level - Open Play area for School breaks and assembly, also serves as a community space after school hours. 2nd level - An Enclosed Space for about 2-4 Classrooms providing enough space for 60 - 100 Pupils. A staircase on the side connects the Open play area. 3rd level - This is the classroom workshop Space.
This is the first Primary school in the Nigeria's heart of the Lagos, Nigeria Lagoon at Makoko is perfectly functioning well since late 2013, as it was set up to address the community's social and physical needs in view of the climate change.
It was designed principally by kunlé Adeyemi a Nigerian Architect with supports from 11 others from NLÉ works, United Nations Development Programme/ Federal Ministry of Environment (AAP), Heinrich Böll Foundation.
